30-Day Devotional
DAY 21
february 19
“The majority of the issues that our community is facing would be eliminated or drastically reduced if we could just figure out a way to become a community of great neighbors.
— Jay Pathak
“For the whole law is fulfilled in oen word: “you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
galatians 5:14
TODAY’S PRAYER THOUGHT
The beauty of loving our immediate neighbors is that it is simple and genuine. Since the goal is to “love” and not make them our pet projects for evangelizing them, we don’t need to memorize any outdated pitches. We don’t need to come up with a diagram on how we are going to lead them to Christ. We just love. Which means we don’t love our neighbors so they will know Jesus, we love them simply because WE love Jesus. As we love those who live near us, something powerful happens. We end up becoming friends with some of them as we get to know them and they get to know us. Ultimately, they will see how our faith in Jesus affects how we do life.
TODAY’S PRAYER FOR GOD’S PEOPLE
Lord, help us to see that our immediate neighbors are someone we are to love unconditionally. Help us to not rush home and close the garage door and shut them out, but to be intentional with reaching out to them and getting to know them.
TODAY’S PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST
Lord, please awaken in me a desire to reach out to my immediate neighbors, even though I might be nervous to do so. Lord, give me the courage to step out in love and make a commitment to get the name of at least one of my neighbors this week.
