30-Day Devotional

DAY 14

february 12

“We make our friends; we make our enemies; but God makes our next-door neighbor.”

— GK Chesterton

“both the pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, ‘this man receives sinners and eats with them.’”
luke 15:2

TODAY’S PRAYER THOUGHT
It’s difficult to read more than two pages of the Gospels without encountering a mealtime. Obviously, food is not the central topic of the Scriptures, but there is no doubt that food was a tool of connection for the Lord Jesus. He was continually questioned by the Pharisees because of his dining companions. For that matter, Jesus was also found eating with the Pharisees! Why so much food in the story of Jesus? There’s something disarming about sharing a meal. As we pray for our neighbors, how might we use mealtimes as an opportunity for connection, conversation, and growth? Who could you bless today with some time around the table?

TODAY’S PRAYER FOR GOD’S PEOPLE
Heavenly Father, make us more like Jesus, as we intentionally connect with our neighbors around the table. We offer our meals for your use, Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen..

TODAY’S PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST
Heavenly Father, help us to remember the spiritual hunger of those far from God that we sometimes forget. Would you open the door for us to share the hope of Jesus to those who haven’t heard? Amen.
