Go Beyond At Home
28-Week Prayer Guide
Sabbath and Solitude
Hey friends, I am so grateful to be able to share this week’s prayer guide with you. What a gift it is to pray for our own hearts and intercede for our Church and one another! This week, we continue to focus on spiritual disciplines, and specifically, the practice of sabbath and solitude. As we enter this week, I encourage you to prayerfully consider what it could look like for you or your family to personally practice sabbath or solitude in your own home. Maybe you take a full day to unplug from screens and media and have an intentional meal as a family or with friends. Maybe you celebrate what God has been doing in your life and others by taking time to share out loud. Maybe you take a morning without distraction and devote it to prayer and listening. What might God do if we position our hearts and minds to rest, delight, and hear from our Father? As Romans 15:13 says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Week 24
Day 6
August 16
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.“
— Philippians 4:4-7
REMINDER: So many beautiful reminders in this passage. 1. Rejoice in the Lord! 2. The Lord is near. 3. Surrender everything by prayer, petition, and thanksgiving to God. 4. God wants to know our hearts and requests. 4. God’s peace surpasses our human comprehension. 5. God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
TODAY’S PRAYER:
– Sit quietly today for five minutes and meditate on this passage. It might be difficult to sit for five minutes without your mind wandering but reflect on this whole passage or a section of it you need to cling to.
– Pray about what comes to mind for you.
– In a world where people are led by fear, anxiety, control, and independence, pray that God’s people would be those who rejoice in Him. Pray that we would joyfully submit our hearts to Him in prayer. Pray that we would experience peace in areas of life that don’t feel possible. Pray that would radically change the way we live our lives.
