Go Beyond At Home
28-Week Prayer Guide
Sabbath and Solitude
Hey friends, I am so grateful to be able to share this week’s prayer guide with you. What a gift it is to pray for our own hearts and intercede for our Church and one another! This week, we continue to focus on spiritual disciplines, and specifically, the practice of sabbath and solitude. As we enter this week, I encourage you to prayerfully consider what it could look like for you or your family to personally practice sabbath or solitude in your own home. Maybe you take a full day to unplug from screens and media and have an intentional meal as a family or with friends. Maybe you celebrate what God has been doing in your life and others by taking time to share out loud. Maybe you take a morning without distraction and devote it to prayer and listening. What might God do if we position our hearts and minds to rest, delight, and hear from our Father? As Romans 15:13 says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Week 24
Day 3
August 13
“God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water. So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory.“
— Psalm 63:1-2
REMINDER: As we continue to take time to practice sabbath and solitude this week, try to set aside a whole hour where you can get away from noise, distraction, and busy and simply get alone with the Lord. God is able to satisfy your deepest needs. If you have time, read all of Psalm 63 this morning.
TODAY’S PRAYER:
– Begin today with a breath prayer. Take as much time as you need to get your mind and body present to the presence of God. Inhale: “God, you are my God.” Exhale: “I eagerly seek you.”
– Spend time in prayer over your heart and life. Where do you need to slow down to simply be in the presence of God? How might you set your gaze on Him and look to His strength and glory? What circumstances or situations might you surrender to His care?
– Pray that we would be a Church and people who proclaim, “God, you are my God; eagerly I seek you.” Pray for church leaders. Pray for families. Pray for those who are in situations that feel overwhelming, and they need to return back to God’s loving care.
