28-Week Prayer Guide

Prayer and fasting

There is great joy in walking intimately with the Lord, where we get to experience and encounter Him in new ways. Spiritual disciplines are a beautiful way to connect with God and lean into our relationship with Him. This week, we’re going to consider how prayer and fasting can strengthen our faith, hope and trust in the Lord.

Week 23
Day 5

August 8

He answered, It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

— Matthew 4:4

REMINDER: Recently, I realized that my attitude was shifting and a lot of that had to do with my input- the things I read, the music I listened to, etc. It became clear pretty quickly that I needed to seriously assess what I was allowing to entertain me. What words or messages are you allowing to infiltrate your heart, and are they in alignment with Philippians 4:8? “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things.”

TODAY’S PRAYER:

–  Ask the Lord if you are being led by Him in accordance with Philippians 4:8, or other voices that are not in full alignment with Christ? Think about music, books, news outlets, politicians, movies or tv shows. Sit with this question.

–  Seek the Lord about fasting from the things that are entertaining and shaping your heart that could be pulling you away from the heart of Christ.

–  Pray that you would dwell on the things listed on Philippians 4:8- and when the opportunities arise to obey this commend (there will be opportunities!), boldly follow His lead.
