Parents and Children
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.”
Parenting can be exhausting! But what if we are wearing ourselves out on things that have no eternal significance and missing out on what we should really be focused on? There’s nothing wrong with spending time and energy on academics, sports, music, dance, etc. It’s just easy to get priorities out of order. This week as we pray, ask the Lord to open your eyes to see where your energy is going and ask for His guidance to adjust your priorities if needed.

“Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, offspring, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons born in one’s youth. Happy is the man who has filled his quiver with them. They will never be put to shame when they speak with their enemies at the city gate.”

REMINDER: No matter how kids came to be “yours”, they are a gift from God. Children are a blessing and an awesome responsibility. We are called to love them, encourage them and teach them the truth about God, even when we are exhausted, or they don’t want to hear what we are teaching. If we don’t have children in our home, we can certainly be a blessing to any children in our lives.
TODAY’S PRAYER:
– Thank God for either your children or the children in your life, and the blessing that they are to you.
– Pray that those children would come to know Jesus as their personal Savior, or that they would grow in their faith.
– Ask God to reveal ways you can bless your children and share hard truths with them.
