Go Beyond At Home
28-Week Prayer Guide
Parents and Children
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.”
Parenting can be exhausting! But what if we are wearing ourselves out on things that have no eternal significance and missing out on what we should really be focused on? There’s nothing wrong with spending time and energy on academics, sports, music, dance, etc. It’s just easy to get priorities out of order. This week as we pray, ask the Lord to open your eyes to see where your energy is going and ask for His guidance to adjust your priorities if needed.
Week 10
Day 3
May 7
“Each of you is to respect his mother and father. You are to keep my Sabbaths; I am the Lord your God.“
— Leviticus 19:3
REMINDER: There are a lot of places in the Bible when we are reminded to obey and respect our parents. In Leviticus 19, that reminder is attached to “keep my Sabbath”. Sabbath is a day of rest. God spends a lot of time telling us we need rest and we need to spend time with Him. Our world is moving faster and faster and the idea of rest can easily get lost in the hustle and bustle of life, but God clearly commands us to rest. Is your family intentionally resting in the Lord? Have you slowly allowed the world to erode that time? Rest isn’t a perk, it’s a command. God knows we need it to survive.
TODAY’S PRAYER:
– Ask God to reveal ways that you have allowed the world and activities to take over your Sabbath.
– Ask God to reveal what might need to be cut out and replaced by rest in the Lord.
– Pray for your children to understand why you might need to make changes to include rest in your week.
