Our History
1977, October – Tallowood Baptist Church establishes Kingsland Baptist Mission. 25 families begin meeting in the Nottingham Country Day School.
1978, February – Tallowood Associate Pastor Hollie Atkinson is called to be the first Pastor of Kingsland Baptist Mission.
1979, January – Membership of 200+ requires Kingsland Mission to move from the Nottingham Day School to Memorial Parkway Elementary School. Tallowood aids in purchase of a 14.5-acre site on Kingsland Blvd.
1980, October – New building dedication. Membership is 350+.
1981, May – Kingsland Baptist Mission becomes Kingsland Baptist Church with 385 Charter Members and 569 enrolled in Sunday School.
1984, November – Pastor Hollie Atkinson resigns.
1985, August – Tim Sledge becomes Pastor.
1987 – Easter – record attendance of 689 in worship launches the Phase III building program that will enlarge the previous Worship Center and increase parking.
1987, September – The Child Enrichment Center (CEC) begins its first year.
1989 – Phase IV Construction – new Worship Center, Music Suite, Welcome Center and office space.
1991, December – The first year of Bethlehem Boulevard draws a crowd of 6,911.
1993 – Easter attendance breaks 2,000.
1995, Summer – 4.7 acres to the east of existing property is purchased for future development.
1995 – Phase V Construction provides a new parking lot and renovated education space.
1996 – Tim Sledge resigns as Pastor.
1996 – Phase VI Construction – Burns Building provides new Student/Adult Education space.
1997, June – Gene Smith accepts the call to become Senior Pastor.
1999, June – Phase VII Construction begins which will provide additional parking, an Activities Center, education space and a new kitchen.
2000, March – Kingsland establishes a mission church in the Fulshear area (now River Bend Baptist Church) with John Crowe as Pastor.
2002, August – Pastor Gene Smith resigns as Pastor.
2002, October – Kingsland celebrates its 25th anniversary.
2003, March – Alex Kennedy called to be Senior Pastor.
2004, April – The Garden, with its outdoor baptistry, is dedicated.
2006, September – Legacy Building is dedicated
2007 – Kingsland establishes a second daughter church, The Crossings, in the Cinco Ranch area, with Matt Powell as pastor.
2008, March – Kingsland closes its doors for one Sunday to remodel the Worship Center and begins our annual tradition of Caring for Katy.
2010 – Easter attendance passes 4,000.
2012, January – Kingsland becomes DEBT FREE!
2012, August – Kingsland starts a third daughter church, Bethel Bible Fellowship, with Paul Cockrell as pastor.
2012, October – Senior Pastor, Alex Kennedy called to Carmel Baptist, Matthews, NC
2013, January – Dr. Robert Sloan serves as Interim Pastor
2014, May – Ryan Rush called to be Senior Pastor.
2015, January – The Church @ Cane Island begins and Worships at Midway BBQ in Downtown Katy with Jon Davis as pastor.
2015, August – Kingsland purchases office space at 802 Dominion Drive.
2015, September – Kingsland purchases 68 acres of land at Stockdick School Road and Porter Road for a new campus.
2017, January – Opening of The Courts at 9:30 hour.
2017, September – Kingsland launches their multi-site campus in North Katy.
2017, October – Kingsland celebrates its 40th anniversary
2019, June – Established International People Groups Ministry.
2019, October – Launched Empowered Homes website, podcast, and leadership network.
2020, September – Opening of Kingland’s North Katy campus
