30-Day Devotional

DAY 2

January 31

“Faith is like an empty, open hand stretched out toward God, with nothing to offer and everything to receive.”

— John Calvin

“By grace you have been saved through faith…”
Ephesians 2:8

TODAY’S PRAYER THOUGHT
We have a natural reaction to that which sounds too good to be true. In a culture where every interaction is a transaction for services rendered, grace is an anomaly. This makes the message of the gospel one that is unnatural. An offer to receive such an incredible gift while having nothing worthy for its payment creates a natural tension. Herein we find the beauty within the anomaly of the gospel. The gift of grace bestowed upon the empty and outstretched hands of faith is a supernatural gift. Engaging in gospel conversations is not a display of logical eloquence but rather a display of supernatural glory; one to which we are invited.

TODAY’S PRAYER FOR GOD’S PEOPLE
Father, help us overcome the perceived obstacle of logical prowess or verbal eloquence as we respond to the gospel need that surrounds us. Overwhelm us with Your empowering grace as we take faithful action toward gospel engagement.

TODAY’S PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST
Father, please grow my heart’s burden for each person and family on my list. Father, open minds and hearts that extend outstretched arms and empty hands of faith toward You throughout each person and family on my list.
