30-Day Devotional

DAY 10

February 8

“It is possible we have created a culture of volunteers who serve others but not a culture of disciples who love their neighbors as themselves? A new question must be asked by Christ followers: ‘Would my neighbors care if I left?’”

— Rick Rusaw

“but this i confess to you, that according to the way, which they call a sect, i worship the god of our father, believing everything laid down by the law and written in the prophets.”
Acts 24:14

TODAY’S PRAYER THOUGHT
The early followers of Jesus were not called people of “the church,” or people of “right doctrine,” or even people of “moral values”. The early Christians were called people of the “Way”. They were known for how they lived their lives, not just what they believed or valued. Our neighbors, more often than not, live too fast and are too cynical. Only an encounter with something real, where they encounter a set of eyes, a conversation, and an authentic life, will cause them to take notice. How many of your neighbors do you know their names, their hopes, their hurts, their history? Do any of them know you care about them the way Jesus does?

TODAY’S PRAYER FOR GOD’S PEOPLE
Lord, awaken in us a desire to channel Your love to our immediate neighbors. Lord, help us to recalibrate our busy schedule so that we can make time to get to know our neighbors, knowing that a polite wave is no longer enough.

TODAY’S PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE ON YOUR LIST
Lord, please give me an opportunity this week to get to know one of my neighbors names, hopes, hurts, or history. Lord show me how to be a follower of the “Way” as I become a better neighbor.
