Ryan was called as the Senior Pastor of Kingsland in May of 2014 after serving as the Senior Pastor of Bannockburn Baptist Church in Austin for ten years. He has been ministering to families for over two decades. In fact, Ryan sensed a call to the ministry at such a young age that he had to get his hardship driver’s license to travel to his first church staff position – at the age of fifteen.
Prior to returning to Texas - the place of his upbringing, Ryan also served as the Family Pastor of the historic Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has hosted numerous radio and television programs on the subject of family life, and has authored two books. Home on Time: Life Management by the Book is a look at Psalm 90 that is helping lead families away from the chaos caused by living within the framework of a disorganized life. Ryan's second book, Walls: Why Everybody's Stuck (and Nobody Has to Be), was released by Tyndale House Publishers in 2011, and shares the principles and stories of Faith Breakthroughs that have become an extraordinary part of church life at Bannockburn.
Ryan also serves as Adjunct Professor at Liberty University. He teaches a course entitled, “Theology of the Family” he helped develop for ministry students. Ryan is a graduate of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Lana, have three daughters: Ryley, Reagan, and Lily.
Brad joined the Kingsland team in May 2014. As the Discipleship Pastor, he provides leadership to all our aged group ministries in an effort to connect church and home by equipping our parents to become the primary faith trainer in their home. Brad also provides leadership to our communications and membership team.
Before coming to Kingsland, Brad served for 18 years in the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine, Brad had the honor to lead some of our nation’s best and brightest in numerous locations around the globe. While serving as a Marine, Brad received his Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership from the University of Oklahoma and earned an Executive Certificate in Leadership & Management from the University of Notre Dame.
Brad is married to his high school sweetheart Liz. They have two boys, Hunter and Andrew. They love all sports, the outdoors, and family game nights.
JP joined the Kingsland staff in October of 2012. As the Operations Pastor, he manages church-wide projects and initiatives and provides leadership for day-to-day operations and administration.
JP graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in May of 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Technology and Training with a Minor in Business. Before coming to Kingsland, JP was on staff at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, GA. He served as the Media Director at Kingsland until June of 2016 when he stepped into the role of Operations Pastor.
He and his wife Jessie have two sons, Paiton and Parker, and a daughter named Paisley. They love board games, telling jokes, and fun family dance parties.
Steve joined the Kingsland team in June 2016. As the Teaching & Training Pastor, he teaches regularly through the church in a variety of formats and works with the Discipleship Pastor to equip and develop leaders at Kingsland who are empowered to use their gifting to teach the Bible in life-changing ways.
In addition to serving at Kingsland, Steve is also a professor at Houston Baptist University where he serves as chair of the Department of Classics & Biblical Languages. Steve earned a BA in Greek and Latin from Baylor University, an MA in Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies from Bryn Mawr College, and a PhD in Classics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Steve and his wife Tamber have 4 daughters: Bethany, Rachel, Hannah, and Madelyn. When not reading, studying, or teaching, Steve enjoys taking road-trips with his family, watching baseball or football (whichever is in season), drinking ice cold Dr. Pepper, and showing off his parallel-parking skills.
Josh joined the Kingsland staff in May of 2009. As the Worship Pastor he oversees the entire Worship Ministry for the church and leads in worship each week.
Josh previously served as Worship Associate at Johnson Ferry Baptist in Marietta, Georgia. Josh graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX in May of 2004 and completed a Masters of Arts in Worship Studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in December of 2010. In addition to Kingsland, Josh serves on the Church Music Advisory Board at Baylor University. Josh passionately pursues a lifestyle of worshiping God and investing into the lives of people through relational discipleship. Josh sees worship as a high calling and important part of every believers journey.
Josh is married to Lacey whom he met in college and they have 3 children, Gavin, Titus and Sadie and a young lady they've invited into their family named Brittney. Josh enjoys spending time with his family and can be heard down most hallways singing a song.
Robin joined the Kingsland team in January of 2017 as Associate Worship Pastor. Robin leads worship in The Courts service on Sunday mornings at 9:30am and is a leader in our Worship Ministry at Kingsland. He will be Worship Pastor at our first multisite campus launching in October of 2017.
Before coming to Kingsland Robin was a part of Hyde Park Baptist Church where he led worship at their north campus (The Quarries Church) as well as various services throughout the week. Robin believes his family’s life calling is to be shepherds that point others to Jesus. He strives to do this on and off the platform. As a song writer and recording artist, Robin also leads worship, on occasion, for different ministries in Texas and across the country.
Robin is married to his beautiful wife Caitlyn. They have one son, Shepherd. The Wymer’s enjoy family walks, spending time at the farm, and good books. Robin likes hunting, football (hook em!), being around people, and eating good BBQ.
Leslee McWhirter and her family have attended Kingsland since 1993. Since joining KBC, Leslee has volunteered in numerous ministries, served as the Children & Preschool Associate from 2003-2011, stepped into the role of Interim Children’s Minister in 2011, and in the fall of 2014 she accepted the position of Children’s Minister. Leslee grew up in Houston and earned a degree in Elementary Education from University of Texas; following graduation, she taught school in Aldine for 8 years, with a specialization in ESL.
Leslee is married to James and they have two teenagers, Meredith and Braston. She loves listening to the wild things that kids say, especially her own. She also enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. She and her family have the goal of visiting all 50 states and so far they have 25 marked off of their list! Leslee is passionate about creating experiences that help children come to know Jesus personally, rather than simply knowing who He is.
Maggie moved to Katy during elementary school and had the privilege of growing up at Kingsland. After several summers interning with the Children’s Ministry during college, she stepped into the role of Children’s Ministry Associate at Kingsland in May of 2013. Maggie is a graduate of Mississippi College with a degree in Social Work and, throughout her undergraduate studies, was able to intern with various foster and adoption agencies. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Education with Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Maggie loves helping children understand who God is and who He has made them to be and she is passionate about working with families as they equip their children to live in the light of these Biblical Truths.
Laura Hearn joined the Kingsland team as the Preschool Minister in August 2016. She and her husband Bryan have three beautiful girls, Georgia, Lorelei and Daisy. Since the late ‘70s, Laura has been part of the Kingsland family and was even baptized here. This University of Texas at Austin grad taught elementary school in the Houston area until Lorelei was born, while actively remaining part of the Kingsland community through volunteering. She served as the Kindred coordinator and worked on Team Kids. Laura also taught 3-year-olds on Sunday mornings for several years. She was Preschool Coordinator at Kingsland before she was called to serve as preschool minister. Laura loves sharing Jesus’ love with the littles and helping to lay the foundation that they will build upon for the rest of their lives. She wants the littles and their families to know that they are loved and prayed for and that the Preschool Ministry is partnering with them in empowering their homes to experience true fulfillment in Christ Jesus. She looks forward to continuing to serve the Lord at Kingsland and hopes you will join her!
Christy joined the Kingsland staff in April 2012 as the Preschool Ministry Associate. She is passionate about guiding families as they lead their children to Christ. She has a degree in Religion with a focus on Children’s Ministry from Liberty University and completed a Master of Arts in Religion at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. In her spare time, Christy enjoys volunteering in the community.
Joe and his family moved from Illinois to join the Kingsland team in January of 2016. He surrendered his life to Jesus in 2004 while going into his senior year at college. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and working in the business world for 5 years, Joe was hired from within his church to be the Director of Student Ministries where he served for over 6 years. He is currently working on a Master’s of Divinity from Liberty University.
Joe is passionate about equipping, encouraging and empowering students to be Gospel-advancing, life-long leaders as they fall in love with and follow Jesus Christ. He believes in mentoring and discipling students into a deeper relationship with Jesus while discovering their gifts for ministry and their ability to influence others for the Gospel.
Joe and his beautiful bride, Meghan, have been married since 2006 and they have a wonderful son named Logan (2010) and a precious daughter named Rylea (2016). Joe enjoys his family, friends, laughing, anything to do with sports and working out.
Chris joined the KSM Staff in December of 2012. He is passionate about student discipleship and wants to point students to the Gospel at every moment. Chris became a Christian at the age of 6. He grew up in the Katy area and is a graduate of Morton Ranch High School. He attended Texas A&M University where he majored in Sociology and minored in Business. He is currently attending Southwestern Theological Seminary pursuing a Masters in Divinity. In March of 2016 he married his beautiful wife Kelley. In his spare time Chris enjoys hanging out with his wife, watching Aggie sports, going to coffee shops, and playing any sport that involves a ball.
Lindsay joined the KSM team in June of 2014. She has a deep desire to disciple young women to understand the life found in Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit and the freedom found in their identity as daughters of God. She has great a passion for loving people through missions and justice, both local and abroad. Lindsay grew up in Katy and graduated from Katy High School. She became a Christian in 2010, while in College Station. She graduated from Texas A&M in 2012 with a degree in Communication. She completed a 10 month residency program in the Dallas,TX area prior to joining the KSM staff. Lindsay loves to run, read, write, eat good food, drink good coffee, and spend time with loved ones, friends and family alike.
Kayla joined the KSM Staff in August of 2015. She became a believer in 2003 and grew up in Longview, Texas where she graduated from Spring Hill High School. She then attended Texas A&M University where she received a degree in Community Health in May of 2015. Kayla is passionate about pouring into and discipling students, and particularly young women, as they pursue Jesus and relationship with a Father who loves them unconditionally. She loves family, friends, coffee, reading, playing all sports, and spending time with those closest to her.
Mike joined the Kingsland ministerial staff in January of 2005 to minister with senior adults after retiring with 42 years in the automobile business. The Lord and age have given Mike a caring heart for ministering with senior adults. He also oversees the prayer ministry and hospital visitation ministry at Kingsland. He and Mary have been members of Kingsland since 1979, and they have two children. Their daughter, Marian, and her husband Scott, gave them three wonderful grandchildren. Their son, Matt, a graduate of the University of Montana, lives in Houston.
Mike is a graduate of East Texas State University with a degree in business and psychology. He is active in several men’s groups, and enjoys spending his spare time reading, playing a little golf, working in the yard and spending time with Mary, his bride of 51 years.
Omar joined the Kingsland staff in July of 2005. He grew up in McAllen, Texas and is a graduate of Pan American University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Omar served churches in the ministry of Christian education for 27 years prior to coming to Kingsland, has written magazine articles and adult Bible study lessons for LifeWay Christian Resources since 1995, and maintains BibleTeachingNotes.com, a popular website for teachers and Bible students. He has led several Sunday Schools to embrace the Great Commandment and the Great Commission and to minister beyond the boundaries of the church campus. Omar helps to mobilize more than 3000 Kingsland volunteers annually to serve others through local and international ministry initiatives. He is deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve God in the areas of missions and evangelism at Kingsland Baptist Church.
Omar and Cheryl are the parents of three children, Elizabeth (Niki), Jonathan, and Gina.
Susan joined the Kingsland Staff in 2006 and oversees the Counsel & Care Ministry and Marriage/Wedding Ministry. Susan has experienced tremendous healing and freedom in Jesus Christ and is passionate to help others know Him.
Susan has an undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Texas at Tyler and a Master’s degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M University. Susan is a licensed Professional Counselor with Supervisory Status in the State of Texas. She has also written several studies, including the workbook for the Crossroads program as Kingsland.
Susan met and married her husband Terry Sowell at Kingsland in 1991. They have 2 college-aged children, Caleb and Jessica. She enjoys taking walks and fishing with Terry, drinking coffee and hanging out with her friends and family.
Ryan is a native Houstonian. Around age 8 he asked Jesus to come into his life and save him from the consequences of his sins. By the time he graduated from Jersey Village High School in 1997 he had been through many ups and downs in his journey with Jesus, but the Lord was faithful and merciful and set his life on a path that has been nothing short of amazing.
He attended the University of Tulsa to play football and get his education. There he met the most beautiful girl on campus - his future wife, Ashlie. After graduating and spending 2 years in Colorado the Lord opened a door for them to move back to Houston and begin serving at a great church in Sugar Land. They moved there in June of 2004 to serve at Sugar Creek Baptist in the student ministry. He was able to pursue his education and received his Masters from Southwestern Seminary in May of 2009. In 2010 they were blessed by the birth of their first son, Peyton. In March of 2012 God opened another door for the Cook's to come serve at Kingsland Baptist. In May 2013 they were blessed with their second son, Gracen. Finally in April of 2016 God gave them a beautiful daughter, Adeline. In what free time he has, Ryan likes to work out and try to play golf – the key word being "try."
